PC Comes To CPL – update

In an earlier page, I discussed the impact the PC’s had on my career.

This month an article in Spectrum, the journal of IEEE, discussed the latest chip developed by Apple. When I graduated from college in 1969, we were designing electronic circuits using discreet components. That is one transistor (or resistor or capacitor) at a time. In 1971, the first microprocessor (Intel’s 4004) was released with 2300 transistors on a single chip. This started the revolution which led to PC’s, cell phones, etc. This month Apple announced a variation of its M1 Max processor, the M1 Ultra, which has 114 billion transistors on two chips.
